All of a of a sudden, the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Maryland — plus the prospect of a juicy general election featuring former Gov. Larry Hogan (R), who is catnip to national pundits — is the most interesting story in U.S. politics. For national political reporters, the story has irresistible if obvious elements — namely the historic nature of Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks’ candidacy, along with the jaw-dropping spending of U.S. Rep. David Trone. Not to mention the primary has become decidedly snippy, with undeniable implications for the fall, as Democrats become increasingly panicked about the prospects of holding the Senate.

The body of the last missing construction worker killed in the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge in March has been recovered, officials announced Tuesday as demolition crews prepared to use explosives in the ongoing cleanup effort. Officials said the crew of the Dali will remain on board the grounded container ship while crews conduct a controlled demolition to break down the largest remaining span of the fallen bridge.

A Baltimore-area bakery has expanded to Chicago. Roggenart European Bakery, Bistro & Café recently opened at 565 W. Diversey Parkway in Lincoln Park. Like the bakery’s other locations, the Chicago spot makes everything from scratch and offers small batches of savory and sweet pastries, croissants, and sandwiches among other popular items. The opening comes after Roggenart opened a store in Arlington, Virginia, in March as part of owners Neman Popov and Brody Tennant’s plan to expand outside Maryland. Roggenart also opened a location in Mount Vernon in Baltimore in April and has stores in Columbia, Ellicott City, Savage and Towson.
