Jawando: In Montgomery County, we are working to reimagine policing

As a black man living in the United States, I’ve been pulled over by police countless times. The first time, I was 15. The most recent time, I was 36 — a few months after I was elected to the Montgomery County Council. Before my 1-year-old son had celebrated his first birthday or even his first tooth, he’d interacted with police. My wife was pulled over the first time she left the house during her maternity leave.
