A New City Rises in Downtown Columbia

The Downtown Columbia project is led by The Howard Hughes Corporation (NYSE: HHC), a prominent, publicly traded, large scale master developer specializing in planned communities. It will ultimately offer 14 million square feet of mixed-use building space on 391 acres of land. The city will feature more than 60 acres of protected, forested land, a storied outdoor amphitheater, a 27-acre lake, 6,244 residential units and 640 hotel rooms. Greg Fitchitt, president of Columbia for The Howard Hughes Corporation, says his company is heavily invested in the community. “We are continuing the vision of the Rouse Company, the city’s originator, updating and upgrading it,” he says.
