Port Administration inks deal with Finnish company to import more forest products through Baltimore

In a welcome boost to the Port of Baltimore amid its pandemic recovery, a Finnish company has signed a new three-year agreement to move all of its mid-Atlantic operations to the Port of Baltimore and expand its space at the state-owned marine terminals on the waterfront. The deal between the Maryland Port Administration, Finland-based Metsä Group and the Baltimore Forest Products Terminal, or Balterm, locks in a three-year contract starting Jan. 1 that will “consolidate all Metsä Group’s mid-Atlantic volumes through the Port,” according to an announcement.
