Kate Michelman, the former president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, is coming to Montgomery County later this month to effectively campaign against the former head of Maryland NARAL.

Michelman is scheduled to headline an event on Aug. 29 for Kyle Lierman, one of 13 Democrats competing for the House of Delegates in District 16, which takes in portions of Bethesda and Chevy Chase.

The "Women for Kyle" event, at a private home in Bethesda, will also feature Montgomery County Councilwomen Duchy Trachtenberg (D) and Valerie Ervin (D), and Irene Pollin, widow of former Washington Wizards owner Abe Pollin.

One of Lierman's top opponents in the Sept. 14 primary is Ariana Kelly, a former head of Maryland NARAL. Dist. 16 will send three delegates to Annapolis this year. Del. Susan Lee (D) is heavily favored to win another term, and Del. Bill Frick (D) is seeking a full term after being appointed to the legislature a few years ago.

Lierman, a political activist whose father is former Maryland Democratic Chairman Terry Lierman, worked for President Barack Obama's presidential campaign and transition team. He and Kelly are among the top non-incumbents seeking the seat.

Michelman is an iconic figure in the feminist movement, having served as head of NARAL for almost 20 years before stepping down in 2004.
